How You Know You’re Old and Boring

With my birthday and Christmas approaching, I have people asking me what I want. So far, my list consists of:

Socks – I like socks.. and could use a few longer thick pairs for the winter. But I managed to find a few fun pairs! I really like these, and I think the creator of kawaii not get’s part of the cut. Only thing is every time I ask my parents to buy me specific things from the internet, they never do. They just aren’t online shoppers.

Dress shirts – I don’t want all of the fancy frilly blouses that seem to be over populating most stores. And shirts with 3/4 sleeves that look like they’re full length sleeves rolled up. I guess I’m a boring minimalist, but I just want plain stuff like this from New York & Co. I really don’t get why they had their models attempt to make these shirts look sexy. They’re plain boring work shirts, they should have tried to make them look professional.  I can wear shirts like these when I go do observations next semester and hopefully not get mistaken for a student as often as I have this semester. Makeup would probably help, but it’s never been my thing.

GRE practice book – this is the ultimate proof that I’m a boring grown up.  I have to get a masters degree, which means I have to take this stupid test. It’s even more stupid if I end up staying at the same school, which I probably will due to the closeness and cheapness. But I’m still looking into other schools just for the hell of it. And I really don’t feel like buying an exam prep book.

That’s it for now. I am officially the most boring grownup ever. I hate having a birthday close to Christmas 😡

My End of Semester Hell

I just thought I’d post an update before I disappear until I’m done with finals. I honestly have no idea how all of this happened.

The first two weeks of December, I have: 2 research papers due, 2 normal papers due, 2 math tests, 1 math final. (my second math final is in the third week)

Anyway, research paper topic time!!

For my education paper I’m writing about the impact technology has had on education. I realize that if  want an A I must include more than just SMART boards and the internet. I must also include cell phones, facebook, online schools, and calculators. And because I have no way of introducing my paper, I have to present a history of modern technology in schools. That last part may or may not happen.

For my English (Literature of Place, in my class, NYC) final paper I had a bunch of things to choose from. I picked to analyze what was unique to NYC during a particular decade. I went with the 70’s because I have my parents as sources. They make it seem like it was a combination of awesome and horrible.A few interesting 1970’s NYC facts!

-Bryant park’s nickname was “needle park” due to all of the druggies and prostitutes

-Times Square was all drugs and sex as well, and Union Square, and Washington Square park.. yea, lotta drugs and prostitutes

-the city had no where near as many tourists as it has today. museums weren’t crowded and central park wasn’t crowded. slavador dali used to take strolls in central park often

-when the rocky horror picture show first came out, you could watch it and not hear the audience say every line, let alone sing along

-the halloween parade wasn’t an official event, just a bunch of people in the village in costumes

-cults (the moonies) didn’t just try and get people on college campuses, they hung out around high schools as well

My Very Belated Pumpkin

I can’t believe I forgot to post this. Actually, I can, the first two weeks of November have been pretty damn heavy. But anyway…

I was planning on taking pictures of my pumpkin in various stages as I carved it but I got really into it and only ended up with two.

At Night:

Basically what I did with this pumpkin was…

1. Chose to do a Spidey related pumpkin.

2. Look at other Spider-pumpkins online and come up with the idea to do mine this way. I saw someone do a bust of the classic 60’s Spidey and another person do a pumpkin head (like what i have) of the Spidey from the most recent films.

3. Made stencils for the eyes as they are a major factor in recognition.

4. Made a poked outline of the eyes, then worked the rest of the pumpkin free hand (while glancing back and forth at my sketch of his webbing patterns) around the eyes.

I’m also adding that the candle in the pumpkin stayed lit for five days. We used a big scented candle from Michaels, but still, it was subject to a lot of wind and even rain. I consider this The Miracle of Halloween, much like Hanukkah. Ironically stricter Jews don’t celebrate Halloween, but do celebrate Purim, which is a lot like Halloween. It’s in the spring and you go around giving out treats instead of begging for them. I wish both were universally celebrated… who doesn’t want a second Halloween in the spring?!

Of Math, Chocobos and Vampires

I haven’t blogged much recently, I’ve kind of been in a bad mood among other things, but I got a crapload of work out of the way so I have a short time to relax before I take on the next load. Yay!!

Recently I started playing Chocobo’s Crystal Tower on Facebook. Those are two of my chocobos, the third is off fighting evil and looking for crystals to steal in a tower. Besides sending them off on adventures (or to die if you are a bad breeder) you can breed them and dress them up in cute outfits. I think I may have scored a brown chocobo baby out of a random breeding, so I’m pretty happy about that!

As far as math goes, I have no idea whats going on in my Vector Calc class. My teacher is that horrible. Yes, I realize I should read the book but I haven’t had time recently. On the other hand my Discrete math class is awesome because of all of the proofs! I think some of them are stupid but over all its a fun and interesting class. But it is not perfect, I believe I have developed a nerd-crush on my professor, due to his geeky love of math and other science fiction related things. Luckily, I don’t consider him attractive so it’s no where near as bad as the last nerd-crush/infatuation/hell I had. I think this is a true nerd-crush, since the nerd aspect is the only thing I’m attracted to.. whatever I experienced last time was dumbass infatuation masked as a nerd crush. Oddly enough I was going through old pictures last week and found a picture of my grandfather in his military uniform and noticed how he and my last infatuation had similar faces. I’m assuming we have similar ancestors somewhere down the line, so I’m glad nothing happened, but sad I didn’t get to know him better.. we could have made epic family tree connections if we were distantly related.

On another note I’ve been watching more Buffy. Buffy and Angel is what a human-vampire relationship is supposed to be! Buffy is strong and realizes that she has to move on with her life after crap goes down.. much unlike.. Bella.  Angel isn’t a controlling sparkly asshole. It is also interesting that Angel only watches Buffy sleep when he’s in evil no soul mode, hmmm what does this say about edward?

Now before I go, have some pro-Buffy anti-twilight images that made me laugh:
